The coming tablet war

Well perhaps it’s really already started, but if you’ve seen a Kindle Fire review, you’ll know it’s a really strong competitor for the Apple iPad. Now Apple is about to release a new tablet, so we’ll see how it compares to the Fire soon.

Stopping political corruption and lobbying should be priority #1

Really, lobbying and political corruption are one and the same thing. Somehow, over the past 30 years or so, lobbying has managed to so pervert the political process that it no longer matters if you’re liberal or conservative, it matters whether you’re part of the wealthiest or not. If you’re wealthy, you can take advantage of low capital gains taxes, deductions for a myriad of expenses, and generally count on the fact that the mega-wealthy will be using their influence to ensure that you are well taken care of in every aspect of your life.

It astounds me that lobbying is somehow defined differently than bribery. If a senator receives $200,000 from the MPAA and then supports restrictive copyright legislation, how is that not a bribe? The people who watch movies don’t have a lobbyist, so how can it be that the 6 billion people who watch movies are not represented, but the few thousand employees represented by the MPAA are? Well, it’s simple, these politicians need money to get re-elected, and until that changes, they will continue to do whatever is in the best interest of themselves rather than the public at large. Until public campaign finance is a reality, and political contributions are banned, the rich will continue to have an undue influence on the laws of this country.
